Awareness of and Application to the Environmental Quality Incentives Program By Cow–Calf Producers AgEcon
Obubuafo, Joyce; Gillespie, Jeffrey M.; Paudel, Krishna P.; Kim, Seon-Ae.
This study uses a bivariate probit model with partial observability to examine Louisiana beef producers’ awareness of the Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP) and how awareness translates to application to the program. Results indicate that awareness of and application to the EQIP depend on portion of income derived from off-farm sources, extent of previous best management practice adoption at one’s own expense, household income, farmed land that is highly erodible, contact with Natural Resource Conservation Service and extension service personnel, and producer age.

Effects of GDF-9 and FSH on mRNA expression for FSH-R, GDF-9 and BMPs in in vitro cultured goat preantral follicles BABT
Leitão,Cintia Camurça Fernandes; Costa,José Jackson do Nascimento; Brito,Ivina Rocha; Magalhães-Padilha,Déborah de Melo; Almeida,Anderson Pinto; Figueiredo,José Ricardo de; van den Hurk,Robert; Silva,José Roberto Viana.
The aim of the present study was to determine the role of GDF-9 and/or FSH on the growth and mRNA expression for FSH-R, GDF-9, and BMPs in goat secondary follicles after culture in vitro. Goat secondary follicles (~200µm) were isolated and cultured for six days in minimum essential medium (MEM) supplemented with GDF-9 (200 ng/mL), FSH (50 ng/mL) or both. At the beginning and end of culture, the follicular diameter was evaluated and compared. The levels of mRNA for GDF-9, FSH-R and BMPs -2, -4, -6, -7 and -15 in cultured follicles were quantified by real time PCR. The results showed that a significant increase of follicle diameter after six days when compared to day 0, but the presence of GDF-9 and FSH did not influence the follicular growth in comparison...

Knowledge, Application and Adoption of Best Management Practices by Cattle Farmers under the Environmental Quality Incentives Program - A Sequential Analysis AgEcon
Obubuafo, Joyce; Gillespie, Jeffrey M.; Paudel, Krishna P.; Kim, Seon-Ae.
This study examines Louisiana farmers' awareness of EQIP and their subsequent adoption of best management practices (BMPs) using a sequential logit model. Results indicate that farmers likely to be aware of EQIP and eventually adopt BMPs under the program were mainly those who had been in contact with NRCS officials.
Tipo: Conference Paper or Presentation Palavras-chave: BMPs; EQIP; Sequential logit model; Environmental Economics and Policy; Livestock Production/Industries.

Osteogenic molecules for clinical applications: improving the BMP-collagen system Biol. Res.
Arrabal,Pilar M; Visser,Rick; Santos-Ruiz,Leonor; Becerra,José; Cifuentes,Manuel.
Among the osteogenic growth factors used for bone tissue engineering, bone morphogenetic proteins (BMPs) are the most extensively studied for use in orthopaedic surgery. BMP-2 and BMP-7 have been widely investigated for developing therapeutic strategies and are the only two approved for use in several clinical applications. Due to the chemical and biological characteristics of these molecules, their authorised uses are always in combination with a carrier based on collagen type I. Although the use of these growth factors is considered safe in the short term, the very high doses needed to obtain significant osteoinduction make these treatments expensive and their long-term safety uncertain, since they are highly pleiotropic and have the capacity to induce...
